10 things I have learned podcasting This Week in Ireland

I last blogged about our show, This Week In Ireland, at episode 5. Now we have made it to episode 10 a few things have come into sharp relief.

  1. The guests have been very generous with their time and thoughts and really make a huge differance.
  2. It is easy to fall into lazy opinons and just following the media wave.
  3. There is a lot of work involved but it is also GREAT FUN.
  4. Building an audience is tough, but when you get the audience you want it is worth it, even 1 at a time.
  5. Asking awkward questions seems to come naturally.
  6. Social media tool are incredibly powerful and when you reach out to people are they are usually welcoming and receptive.
  7. We are looking to build a business, now we are looking for sponsors, by episdoe 15 we hope to have 1 at least.
  8. Discipline is definitely required to do it week in, week out.
  9. If you have something to say, the tools have never been cheaper or more available.
  10. We have great faces for radio, but still might do video.

Liverpool Imploding

It's been a funny old week.
This time last week I was heading to a Q&A for Liverpool Fans with Gary Mc Allister and Didi Hamman.
The two Liverpool Legends were incisive and entertaining with Didi showing quality insights and Gary as ever a gentleman.
In a funny twist of fate Chris de Burg (I am not a fan) was spotted in the crowd and pulled on stage.
He did a nice 10 minutes of his long history of being a lover of Liverpool and even did a quality A cappella version of "You'll never walk alone" with chorus by 1000 pool fans.

Ah what a fine evening.

Then in the week the team goes on the pitch twice and fails to turn up on both occassions. Losing to Wigan and Lille just says it all.
This is not a rant or even a primal scream. It is just with a deep sense of resignation you say finally the season is over. The effort is not there from the players or the club, and the manager continues to talk nonsense in defeat. So even if by some miracle they get to 4th and win the europa who cares. The players don't. The owners don't and most of the fans won't.

Rafael Benitez derides Champions League play-off plan

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has laughed off the idea of a Champions League play-off, saying teams would be playing "until the end of the century".

The suggestion of a play-off between the teams who come fourth to seventh for the fourth spot has drawn mixed reviews but Benitez says it is absurd.

If Rafa is so afraid of NOT finishing in the top three he should resign. He should be worried about winning the Premier League, NOT finishing FOURTH!!

This Week In Ireland - Only the start!!

Leo Laporte is leading the charge into new media and monetizing the market that exists online for good content.

Having been a fan of Leo's This Week In Tech for over 2 years and of Jason Calacanis efforts with This Week In Startups I decided to give it a go.
Partnering with a good friend we have so far created 5 episodes of This Week In Ireland and have gained more than 600 subscribers.
The show covers news, politics, business and sports for Irish people at home and abroad, but most importantly is a blast to do.

Please feel free to look at Leo's speech and subscribe to our podcast. It might just inspire you to have a go yourself.
